Introduction to 10th Grade Math
Well I am quite excited to begin this class. As I am writing this I am beginning to think of what subjects will be covered throughout the year. And the more I think of these subjects the more I begin to think of the type of enjoyment I will have when learning these topics. I always seem to enjoy Math a little bit more than I enjoy other classes, due mainly to the fact that everything in Math is new. Every new equation and formula is new to me and is always enjoyable to learn.
So to basically summarize my goals for this class I just want to learn. I'm not very specific to what I would like to learn, just something new.

Obama Inauguration Problem
This was the Obama Inauguration problem. The point of this problem was to find a scale and try to find an estimate for how many people would fit in the area of the National Mall.
We began just looking a satellite image taken on the day of President Obama's Inauguration and seeing the groups of people from a higher altitude. We went around this laminated picture and circled the major groups of people, and we used this measure to make a scale of how many people would fit in the area. |
A Little Reflection...to myself
The CAHSEE
The CAHSEE test was relatively difficult although it wasn't incredibly challenging. The reading comprehension part was I felt was the easiest to complete because all of the information needed was right in front of me! If I didn't understand something I just had to glance at the text for a second. That was the main strategy for this part of the quiz. Although for the math part of the quiz I mainly just used the answers to my greatest advantage, this was the most difficult part of the test for me.
The Habit of a Mathematician that I felt I used more was the Solving a Simpler Problem which means that I mainly looked to simplifying the problem that the CAHSEE might over-complicate in a way that would only damage my understanding of it. Although sometimes those over-complicated would get to me and fool me which I guess is something that I need to improve on.

The Future of me and the SAT/ACT
To the right is a little chart with the scores necessary to enter those schools. I have Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Los Angeles and San Diego State University as some of the potential choices for my future. The graph also includes the SAT and ACT scores that the colleges require to enter and be accepted into their schools so it's important that I meet those standards if I want to join the colleges I'm looking at. I plan to take these test in about a year or less to get a feel for it then I plan to take it again to see if I could improve those scores. I plan to prepare by simply continuing to learn and review the knowledge necessary to learn. |
