1/2 Face Drawings
In the early stages of the semester to get us in the art grove and more familiar with shading we decided to do 1/2 face drawings of people who inspire us. I decided to do Cristiano Ronaldo because even though he is seen as arrogant and self centered on the pitch there is no denying he is one of the most charitable people in the world. In fact he is THE most charitable athlete in the world and it is because of his willingness to give that he is an inspiration. Not only that but his attitude when it comes down to becoming a better player and person is incredible. He wants to always be better every day. So because he is so willing to give and because his work ethic I believe he is an inspiration.

Grid Drawings - Napoleon
To continue bettering our artistic skills we learns how to grid draw. This type of method is used when enlarging and scaling art pieces up or when scaling them down. So you draw a grid on an image that is significantly smaller than the piece you want to draw. For example, for our smaller image we had squares that were 0.5 in by 0.5 in which we then just scaled up to squares that were 1 in. by 1 in. For my image I drew Napoleon from painting of him I found online. I as well shaded it and wrote Thomas R. as a homage to my buddy Thomas, who shares a country with Napoleon. I enjoyed doing this art a lot especially because it was of an image that I really wanted to draw so I was eager to finish. It was a fun experience and I for sure grew in my artistic skills through this drawing as well as learned a new strategy.

"Honrando el pasado con un proverbio"
Honoring the past through a proverb
In Spanish we researched different proverbs in Spanish that meant different lessons that people have somehow learned throughout their life. My proverb was "El que duerme con lobos aullar aprende" which means "He who sleeps with wolves, learns to howl." I believe this means that if you hang out with bad influences you will eventually pick up some bad habits. So for my art piece I decided to try to show someone who seems like a bad influence that is kind of just relaxing. I tried to make the table he's leaning on look a bit like a bar so that the figure looked like a tough guy that doesn't really "play by the rules". I took quite a while to trace the image but the most difficult part was using enough paint so that it din't seem as transparent because of the thin layer of paint. I think it turned out pretty well and I am mostly proud of the arm and fingers which I think look pretty cool.
