Review Lesson: Preterit Form
For our first project in Spanish 2 we reviewed some of the subjects from last year. I being a native-speaker and a Spanish honor's student was allowed and given the option to review topics in Spanish 2. I decided to review the Preterite form, although I was basically learning it for the first time.
The preterite form is a tense in Spanish, used for an action that was in the past that was completed at a specific time. Like "Yo hice" or "Yo dije"

On the right is a poster that I created digitally to show different examples of of the ways you can use Preterite Form with different verbs such as "Hacer" or "Saber" which is "To do" and "to know".
I also wrote a song that I performed in class involving the preterite form. Below are the lyrics to my song. "Honrando el pasado con un proverbio"
Honoring the past through a proverb
In this project we decided to look at some proverbs that have been told in Spanish and try to relate them to events on our life. We then wrote essays about that event and what we learned from it. To add along to the project we created art pieces that were day of the dead related but also connected to our proverb in a way. Below is my essay for my proverb with an english translation.
He who sleeps with wolves, learns to howl.
This means that when one hangs out with people who are bad influences, they learn to do bad things. For example, if someone hung out with members of a gang, they might learn things such stealing or doing drugs. I learned this lesson when I was ten years old. I was in fifth grade in elementary. I was very very young. I thought that all my friends and the people around me were never going to change. I thought that bad things only happened to people I didn’t know. I didn’t think something like that could happen so close to me, to a person who i considered my best friend. One of these friends was my friend Nestor. But I think that now he had become better friends with better influences and that he has a bright future. It all started when my friend started to hang out with new friends. These people were bad influences. My friend started to change completely, in everything he did. Everything changed and I could see that he was turning into a completely different person. Someone who everyone was scared of. And I was scared of his future. Although now I know that I need to care for my friends and help them recognize when they are doing wrong to themselves. I now know that I must care for my friends. That you have to protect the people you care for. |
Here is also my art piece, it is originally an image of me just sitting at a table so I took that outline and filled it in with my own design. Including the shirt and the skull design on my face.
