Anza Borrego: Humanities
Throughout Anza Borrego there were plenty of moments that l will never forget, though one stuck above all. At night, the most memorable moment was when me and my friends all went around, waving our flash lights around claiming to be "Jedi Warriors" swinging and battling with our "Light Sabers". We were even assigned on a "Jedi Mission" to go take out the trash to the garbage can! Another memorable time I can remember was when I woke up a little before 5:20 and got prepared to play "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream at 5:30 when everybody was supposed to be awake. One of the things I learned throughout this trip was that it takes a lot more water to survive than I thought.
A new friendship I developed on this trip was definitely strengthening my friendship with Thomas R., he was one of the few "Jedis" to accompany us on this mission.
Something I wish I could've done differently is stayed up a bit later because while I was asleep, I missed all the fun and all the screams that all my friends made although sleeping was definitely more beneficial.
I also wish my group would have worked together more because we were all very split apart throughout the trip.
Take a look at some of the photos below to see some of the places we visited! (Some extra photos from Elfin Photos included!)

Although after this project we got to work in
Multimedia class and created catalogs on
Photoshop for our projects!
Lord of the Flies
For this project, we read the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a story of a group of kids stuck on an island. We read and looked through the book for symbolism. Examples of where the author chose to use symbolism. That was the main goal of this reading, just as survivalist characteristics were the goal in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. And just as we did with Into the Wild, we wrote an essay, using text evidence and ideas we've take from the book and discussions we've had.
After we finished reading the book and our essay we began the project. This project is really based on what we studied throughout the book, which was symbolism. We created covers of the book that showed several of the symbols in the story. For example, someone could of have drawn a pig's head on a stick which in the book was a very strong symbol symbolizing everything that is wrong and evil withing the characters, and if we were to adopt the idea of those characters representing humanity in a way, then it could very well present the evil in the world today.

Although I didn't draw the head of a pig on a stake, I drew the
island. Because overall, it is thought that the island represents the
world and that everything on the island somehow represents us. I
also wanted the island I drew to seem like the world a bit too, so I
drew it so small to show how small we are compared to the rest
of the universe.
